Tucked away beneath a canopy of ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss, Micanopy, Florida is a town that feels like a well-kept secret. It’s quiet. It’s soulful. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t rush—and for someone like me, who’s always moved through life intuitively, it felt like a sacred pause.
Recently, I had the opportunity to stay on a permaculture farm just outside Micanopy, and the experience left a lasting impression on my heart, hands, and spirit.
This wasn’t just a trip—it was a lifestyle shift.
Living with the Land
For nearly two weeks, I immersed myself in the rhythms of the farm: rising with the sun, tending to the soil, watering melons, and absorbing the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture. Permaculture isn’t just farming—it’s a philosophy of working with nature rather than against it. Every plant has a purpose. Every cycle is honored. And in this space, I saw firsthand what abundance really looks like when rooted in respect and balance.
A Different Kind of Treasure Hunt
When I wasn’t on the land, I explored the charming town of Micanopy, known as the “Antique Capital of Florida.” Each shop felt like a time capsule, filled with vintage gems, old stories, and carefully preserved histories. I found myself drawn to the textures of old leather, aged wood, and forgotten photographs—reminders that beauty is often found in what’s been weathered and worn.
Thrifting in Micanopy was a spiritual experience. It wasn’t just about buying things—it was about listening. I let the items find me, much like how this little town did.

Simple Luxuries & Soulful Lessons
I cooked slow meals with local produce, sat on porches in silence, and watched the sky change colors without checking the time. I connected with other creatives and stewards of the earth, each conversation reminding me that peace isn’t passive—it’s something we choose, something we build with intention.
Being in Micanopy isn’t about escaping. It was about remembering. Remembering who I am when things are still. When life is simple. When joy is found in growing melons, turning compost, sipping tea under the stars, and discovering treasure in dusty corners of antique stores.
Final Thoughts
Micanopy, thank you for holding me gently. For teaching me that being rooted doesn’t mean being stuck. It means being present, being open, and letting life move through you—just like the rain moves through the soil.
I carry your stillness with me.
